We report the detection of HPV 52 in a sample taken from a year-old patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the treatment for laryngeal papilloma of the left eye. The method used for the detection of HPV was real time polymerase chain reaction. The evolution was favorable after surgical removal of the tumor and the patient was explained that long-term follow-up is essential to avoid recurrence.
The lack of a curative treatment and the tendency of treatment for laryngeal papilloma papillomatosis to recur in an extensive manner require an aggressive treatment. Although multiple medical therapies are available, their results are not always the desired ones. That is why nowadays the focus of the therapy is on the surgical approach. The best results may be obtained thru multiple surgeries, with resection of all papilloma foci.
